Ghosts of Signal Hill
June 3rd to September 16th, 2011
Friday Nights - 8pm
Signal Hill National Historic Site Visitor Centre

New for 2011!

Daring escapes, murdered pirates, ghost ships, buried treasure, tragic drownings, and headless phantoms: it is all in a night’s work at Signal Hill National Historic Site.

From the creator of the award-winning St. John’s Haunted Hike comes an evening of ghost stories, historical tales and strange adventures. Join the dashing Lieutenant Ranslaer Schuyler by lamplight inside the historic Queen’s Battery, and find out what happens on Newfoundland’s most historic hill, after the lights go out.

$15 ($10 for kids 12 and under) Cash sale only
(price includes admission to Signal Hill National Historic Site Visitor Centre)

Buy your tickets and meet your guide at the Visitor Centre.

It is getting dark early, so feel free to bring a flashlight to help your way up and down the hill!

Note:

Tickets must be purchased at least fifteen minutes before the show, from the Parks Canada Signal Hill Visitor Centre, Signal Hill Road, St. John’s. Haunted Hike passes not accepted. Free parking available on site. “Ghosts of Signal Hill” is an indoor, seated show, running approximately one hour. Some uphill walking required to get from the parking area to the performance space. Because of the historic architecture of Queen’s Battery, the show is not wheelchair accessible. Washroom facilities available at the Visitor Centre only, so visit before the show starts!

Seating is limited. Tickets are now available at the Visitor Centre for advance purchase, cash sale only.

The role of Lieutenant Schuyler is played, on alternate nights, by actors Jedediah Baker and Dale Jarvis

Jedediah Baker has been performing theatrically since his first role in a performance of Crusty the Crab as the eponymous crustacean. Since then he's been acting almost constantly, appearing in shows from Grease to Cats to West Side Story. He's given spooky tours of burying grounds and graveyards as a member of Ghosts & Gravestones in Boston, Massachusetts, where in the persona of Headless Jed he delighted tourists and locals alike with his bawdy and bloody tales, physical comedy, and his ridiculous cockney accent. He's appeared with Shakespeare by the Sea as Caliban in The Tempest and Berowne in Love's Labour's Lost. Most recently he portrayed Davey in Play Group Theatre's production of Bedtime Stories.

Dale Gilbert Jarvis is a storyteller, professional folklorist, and writer living and working in St. John's.  Dale tells ghost stories, faerie stories, legends and traditional tales from Newfoundland, Labrador, Ireland, United Kingdom and beyond. Dale is the founder of the St. John’s Storytelling Circle, creator and owner of the St. John’s Haunted Hike, and wrote the script for “Ghosts of Signal Hill.” He is in great demand for storytelling festivals across Canada, and has been featured at local and international festivals and performances venues in Canada, the United States, Belgium and the Netherlands. He is committed to spreading the art and profession of storytelling and encouraging new (and old) storytellers to tell their tales.
